In an effort to reduce CO2 emission, and to keep Milltech’s gas furnace competitive cost wise for the Heat Treatment of >150 alloy bar, recouperators have been installed in each of the two waste gas flues as seen in the below photo.
The purpose of the recouperators is to pre-heat the combustion air from ambient temperature prior to mixing it with gas and firing into the furnace via the burners.
The pre-heating of the combustion air has resulted in a saving of approximately 20% in gas consumption which equates to more than $10/Tonne and of course, less CO2 into the atmosphere.
